A Little Reminder

Oh boy, Rachel's story is in equal measure heartbreaking and heartwarming. It's something that brought tears to my eyes, made me realize, even more so, that life is oh-so fragile and that dogs are incredibly therapeutic, even if we don't acknowledge it as much...

'My husband had a sudden heart attack a few months ago. It was just a few blocks from here. They called me in to identify his body and then just let me walk right out onto 7th Avenue. I felt so lost. My friends were wonderful and supportive but eventually everyone moves on with their lives. I don’t have children. And I’m not a workaholic. So I was left with this intense loneliness and void. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. Then one day I started researching dogs that are good for grief and depression. And ‘poodle’ kept popping up. But when I went to the rescue fair, all the poodles were gone. There was this one old dog in the back that nobody was looking at. She was skin and bones. She was trembling and scared and mucus was running out of her eyes. She seemed so fragile. She reminded me of myself. I named her Grace because I think my husband sent her to me. She’s my first dog. She’s been pure joy. We spend all our time together. She’s gained her weight back. She comes with me to therapy. We’re getting better together.'

P.P.S: 40 days of dating.

Winter Hair Fix

If your hair gets unmanageable and frizzy during winter, here is a great little mask to turn your dreary locks into smooth and luscious head of hair!

You just need 3 tablespoons of corn starch, 2 teaspoons of coconut oil, 1 cup of milk and juice of 1 lemon - bring it all to simmer until it gets thick. Let it cool. Apply to your hair and leave it on for about an hour before washing your hair, as usual. Ta-dah!

I've tried it twice so far and my hair feels better than ever. Will you give it a go?

Homemade Granola Top Tip

This past weekend I made 2 new batches of homemade granola. I wanted something nutty, cinnamon-y, festive and crunchy. So I tried Viola's tip of swapping maple syrup or honey for nut butter or jam and it worked like a charm! I used this recipe and added an extra helping of jam and it made the oats, nuts and seeds stick together so much better than ever before. Plus, the extra flavour of the sweet fruit makes the whole thing even more indulging. Win-win!

Try it!

P.S: Plus, this...
P.P.S: And this.
